Welding cut studs for removal: (11th Jan 2003)

Now the remaining problem is the pair of cut-off studs in the block.

They seemed quite tight when I tried the longer one with Mole-grips, so I applied a liberal dosing of Freeway and left it until another day!

Nut welded on stud near cylinder 7

Note a washer was fitted to protect the block.

This stud was about 1/2" proud of the block which left plenty of space to fit a nut so that the surface was flush for welding.

Make sure you have some water handy!

Nut welded on stud between cylinders 1 & 3

This stud was only 3/16" proud of the block so Alan used a thinner nut and filed a bevel edge on the inside to assist the weld.

Once the nuts had been welded, a bit more Freeway was applied.

Then a torque wrench was used but proved unnecessary to avoid breaking the welds.
Both studs unscrewed with relatively little effort.

Excellent piece of welding from Alan Smith!
